Redakcija Within the project Divided Past – Joint Future, the editorial board of the magazine “Avlija” from Rozaje has announced an international contest for the best unpublished poetry, short story and aphorism with a theme of reconciliation between the people and building of a lasting and sustainable peace in Western Balkans.
In the New Year with a Divided Past, but with a Joint Future
“Let a joint language (Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin), cultural heritage and literature as a common wealth be new bridges in the process of reconciliation and in building lasting and sustainable peace in Western Balkans. Let’s leave a divided past and enter a New Year with a joint future.”
The competition is open from December 31, 2018 until January 31, 2019.
Authors who want to compete should only send one short story, one piece of poetry and up to 5 aphorisms.
Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo (according to UNSCR 1244/99), Montenegro, Albania, FYR Macedonia and Turkey can take part in the competition.
Short stories, poems and aphorisms can be written in Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian or Montenegrin (Cyrillic or Latin). Authors who write in Albanian, Turkish, Macedonian, Roma or some other native language should also send their work translated into common language of Bosniaks, Serbs, Croats and Montenegrins.

The results of the competition will be published on March 1, 2019.
Praised stories, poems and aphorisms will be published in a joint collection of peace-oriented poetry and prose New Bridges.
The project “Culture and common language as new bridges” is being implemented as part of the project “Divided Past – Joint Future”, which leading applicant is Youth Communication Center from Banja Luka, and it is financed by the European Union.
